Ceramic Metering Pump Working Principle and Control Methods

MICRAVA Ceramic Pumps are ideal metering equipment for precision fluid metering, filling, dosing, dispensing, dripping, and sampling. Ceramic metering pumps are now widely used in battery electrolyte filling, biopharmaceuticals, microelectronics, food & beverage, chemical industries, and many other fields. In high-standard and high-demand manufacturing processes, they undertake the metering, dosing, and transportation of highly precise, corrosive, and toxic fluid media. After years of practical application and technical improvement, ceramic metering pumps have now entered a period of rapid growth.

Today, with the continuous stabilization and maturity of ceramic material technology from raw materials, sintering, to precision machining, the performance, quality, and cost of ceramic metering pumps have achieved breakthrough improvements. With their unique chemical resistance properties and stability, ceramic plunger pumps can meet the chemical resistance requirements for transporting most chemical liquid media under power-driven operation. As the requirements for industrial intelligence and automation continue to increase, MICRAVA, as a ceramic pump R&D and sales enterprise, has a highly skilled and experienced R&D team. The safety, controllability, and intelligence of ceramic metering pumps are becoming increasingly important.

MICRAVA Ceramic Pump Working Principle

Ceramic metering pumps mainly consist of three major components: stepper motor drive, ceramic valve body, and control system. According to different driving methods, there are currently two mainstream types: rotary reciprocating type and linear push-pull type.

Rotary Reciprocating Ceramic Metering Pump

The rotary reciprocating type uses a stepper motor drive system to drive the ceramic rod (ceramic piston) in reciprocating push-pull and rotational motion, achieving piston reciprocating movement to transport fluids to the required destination. The precision ceramic valve chamber ensures the accuracy of each suction and discharge volume, thereby achieving precise metering of the conveyed media.
The metering pump controller is equipped with an upper computer RS485 communication port, enabling monitoring and control of the metering pump through the upper computer system. It also supports switching signal input and output, alarms, real-time feedback, and completion feedback signals.

Rotary Reciprocating Control

The volume of each stroke chamber determines the metering capacity of the pump. The calculation formula is V=πr². The flow rate of the output medium depends on the stroke length, ceramic chamber volume, and stroke frequency. Under fixed metering medium and working pressure conditions, the output volume of the metering pump can be adjusted by manually changing the stroke length (angle) and setting the stepper motor speed and rotation direction through the human-machine interface.

Linear Push-Pull Control

Similarly, the volume of each stroke chamber in the linear push-pull ceramic metering pump determines its metering capacity. The output flow depends on the stroke length, ceramic chamber volume, and stroke frequency. Under fixed metering medium and working pressure conditions, the output volume can be adjusted by changing the stroke length.
Although both stroke length and stroke compensation can be used as adjustment variables, in engineering applications, stroke length is generally regarded as a coarse adjustment variable, while stroke compensation is used for fine adjustment. The stroke length is adjusted to a certain value first, and then fine adjustment is achieved through compensation to increase flexibility. In relatively simple applications, the stroke length can also be manually set, with only the stroke frequency used as the adjustment variable, thereby simplifying system configuration.
